It's Halloween season, so I'm happy to be sharing this witch pin-up from nearly 30 years ago!
It's so strange to revisit old artwork and create something new.
This piece, titled "Witchy" was a pen and ink on Bristol board analog illustration from around 30 years ago. It was created and intended to be a black and white piece.
Lately, in preparation for a project called "Bad Girls" that was also almost 30 years ago, I've been returning to these old pieces and coloring them digitally.
This time though, I did a little more. Instead of just doing some rudimentary cleanup on this art, I actually went in and re-inked some small areas and opened up some other areas. I had 30 years of hindsight and experience that allows me to look at this artwork with eyes so fresh, that it's almost like working with another artist.
My work has definitely evolved over the years, but surprisingly, it does still look very much like my new work as well.
This is the second piece that I've colored with my new quicker and more simple style. Something I'm really enjoying. Once I got to the coloring phase it went quickly from concept to final strokes. That's such great news for my ability to produce new work, and work more often!
Basically, this coloring process is what I will use when I color comic book work. It's different from what has evolved into my painted art style, which I love, but it takes so much longer. I'm settling into two different basic styles right now. I can't tell you how happy I am to be at this stage of development.
