It’s back about a hundred years for this fine study of a lady pulling a stocking on.


It was taken by American photographer Edwin Bower Hesser (1893-1962) in the nineteen twenties. Hesser had studied art at the Art Institute of Chicago where photography was part of the course. Impressed by the nudes of Alfred Cheyney Johnson which were first seen in 1917 he met Johnston who offered support and advice.
