NEW! This is a painting that serves as both character creation and a promotional illustration for the Dominatrix Boss book series.

Over the past week or so I've had a breakthrough on painting, and a couple of highlights, but this is another big step forward. After the face portraits I did, I wanted to see what I could do with more of a figure, so doing a painting of an original character seemed like a good project.

This was nowhere near as fast as the face portraits. There's just more going on. But I worked through it step-by-step and it was fun.

One thing I really like is how easy it is to put something in, big or small, after I'm well underway. I could certainly do that with line art, but it's quicker with painting. While I was working I noticed that there was something off about her hand and I fixed it with a few strokes. That would have required me to go back to ground zero if I was working with an inked image.

Painting is also more forgiving. I can suggest something with color alone, or a few swipes of a brush, that would have vexed me for hours or days with line art.

The additional complexity of a bigger piece means more time though. The face portraits were relatively quick. This took more time, and I suspect that adding backgrounds and more figures could double or triple the time that a line drawing would take.

Then again, it's entirely possible that as I get optimized I'll find some shortcuts and get there faster. Only time will tell.

Right now I'm having the time of my life, finally free to do the painting that I've wanted to do for so long.
